Remove Data Restore Virus

Data Restore is a new addition to the Win AVPro family.  Along with running fake scans and alerts, Data Restore will also prevent you from running legitimate programs.  This newer strain has started bundling in rootkits along with it’s other related fake antivirus definitions.  Our research team has classified this infection as Rogue Anti-Spyware / Rogue Anti-Malware.

What is Data Restore

Data Restore will show fake scan results on your computer screen to trick you into believing your computer is infected.  Its number one goal is to trick customers into purchasing their fake software.  Do not purchase it or attempt to purchase it as it can also steal your credit card information and other personal information.

Data Restore can configure Windows to use it’s own Proxy Servers (this will lead your web browser not to launch). You may find your most trusted sites marked as malicious or potentially harmful and you may see security alerts on those web pages.

Step by Step Removal Instructions for Data Restore 

1. Start Windows in safe mode by rebooting your system.  You can do this by rebooting your system and hitting the F8 button upon the reboot.

2. Start Internet Explorer and go to Menu > Tools > Internet options. Click the connections tab and select LAN settings.  In the LAN Settings, go to proxy server and un-check “Use proxy server for your LAN”.  Now your browsing should be resumed without the interruption of Data Restore.

3. Download Malwarebytes by clicking on the following link:  Click Here to Start Removing Data Restore

4. Save the file to your desktop.

5. After you see the file saved to the desktop, close all open windows and applications running on the computer.

6. Locate the Malwarebytes file on your desktop and run it. (the file name is called mbam-setup.exe)

7. Once the installation starts, the options Update Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware should be left checked. (this will make sure you get the latest version of Malwarebytes upon installation)

8. Malwarebytes will now launch.  Once you see the Malwarebytes interface, go ahead and Perform a Full Scan.

9. After the full scan is complete, you can start the removal process of Data Restore.

10. Click the Remove Selected button and allow Malwarebytes to start the removal process.

11. After the removal process is done, close the Malwarebytes interface.

12. Reboot your computer into normal mode; you have successfully removed Data Restore from your system.  If you have any additional issues, give us a call at 800.530.8514.
